March 2013

Dear Parents.,

Spring has sprung! Hopefully, the warm weather and sunshine is on its way. We had a windfall of activities this month. We started the month by concluding our unit on colors. We then did a variety of Easter activities at the end of the month.

To begin the month, we painted an orange shirt, a purple shirt, a black shirt, and a brown shirt. Our various colored shirts are now hanging from clotheslines in our classroom and even out in the hallway. We had fun singing our song, “(Name) wore a (color) shirt, (color) shirt, (color) shirt. (Name) wore a (color) shirt, all day long!” for each shirt we painted. We read a variety of stories with colors. We especially liked Harold and the Purple Crayon since we had to draw pictures just like Harold using a purple crayon.

To get ready for Easter, we each made an Easter basket out of plastic milk containers that were cut to look like bunnies. We did a great job lacing them, cutting out eyes, and making a nose and whiskers. We made a chick whose wings were in the shape of our hands. These are now being used as spring decorations for our classroom. We also dyed eggs. On the last day before Easter break, we were surprised to find that the Easter bunny had visited our classroom, filling our baskets and hiding them! We had fun looking for them. In the afternoon, we also did a variety of holiday activities with Mrs. Cook’s class and Mrs.Locavare’s class. We make bunny ears, decorated eggs, listened to a bunny story, and played some games. We also enjoyed a special snack with our friends.

Our Alphabet Book continues to grow. For the letter U, we cut out and glued on upside down umbrellas, for the letter L, we put on leaf stickers, for the letter H, we put on heart stickers, and for the letter K, we cut out kites and glued them on the K.

Looking ahead, we will be presenting a song at the next Character Counts assembly on Tuesday, April 23rd at 9:15 with Mrs. McGarrey’s, Mrs. Peters’, Mrs. Tiger’s, and Mrs. Locavare’s classes. We have already started practicing singing the song which is about fairness. In addition, we will be participating in the Willow Dale Walkathon on Friday, April 5th.

Happy Spring!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Margaret Abbott
