SCHOOL NURSE SERVICES
The school nurse is an independent, skillful professional who practices a diverse health care role. The focus is to assist each individual student to perform at his or her best in the school environment. The work includes fulfilling the State of Pennsylvania mandates that every student receive a yearly screening of vision, hearing, height and weight. In certain grades, physical, dental and scoliosis examinations are also required. The complexity of health care during school hours has increased with the addition of medically fragile students to our school population. The nurse is also responsible for maintaining immunization and health records on each student, health reports, and other reports and forms related to the daily activities of the health service. The Centennial School District provides this health service guide to parents/guardians as a reference of current health policies.
PARENT SUPPORT
Our staff depends on cooperation between the home and school to effectively administer health-related programs. Your assistance is vital in the following areas: Emergency cards, forms, questionnaires, etc. need to be completed and returned promptly. Changes in a telephone number, address, emergency contact, employment, etc. should be reported, in writing, to the school nurse and school office. Information on a new immunization, surgery, accident, communicable disease, or special medical condition should be reported, in writing, to the school nurse. Please keep students out of school if they experience a temperature above 100 degrees, vomiting or diarrhea within the 24-hour period.
