Ms. James-Coles Appointed Principal at Davis Elementary

The Centennial School District Board of School Directors and District Administration are pleased to announce the appointment of Shawanna V. James-Coles, M.Ed., as the principal of Davis Elementary School.  Ms. James-Coles was approved for this position by unanimous vote of the Centennial Board of School Directors at its regularly scheduled Board meeting held Tuesday, September 9, 2014.

 

“Our Board of School Directors welcomes Ms. James-Coles to Centennial School District,” stated School Board President Jane Schrader-Lynch.  “We look forward to working with her and are thrilled to have an administrator of her caliber as a part of our district.”

After a careful review of her skills and attributes, Ms. James-Coles was identified by an interview team, which was comprised of representatives from Centennial School District parents, faculty, staff, and Board of School Directors, as the best candidate for the position.

Ms. James-Coles comes to Centennial School District with more than 19 years of experience in the field of education with The School District of Philadelphia.  Her varied experiences have provided her with extensive opportunities to create vibrant student-centered learning environments.  She began her career as a second grade teacher, became an Instructional Reform Facilitator, and is currently an Instructional Specialist across regions in The School District of Philadelphia.  Ms. James-Coles is an enthusiastic and sincere educational leader who easily establishes strong working relationships with students, parents, faculty, and staff.

Ms. James-Coles holds a bachelor degree in early childhood/elementary education from Temple University and a master degree in elementary education balanced literacy from Cambridge College.  Ms. Coles completed a certificate program in distributed leadership at the University of Pennsylvania.  She also holds a master degree in educational leadership from Lehigh University.

“We are genuinely excited for Ms. James-Coles to join our team,” said Dr. Joyce Mundy, Superintendent of Schools.  “Davis Elementary School will benefit from her expertise and passion for education.”  Ms. James-Coles will assume her role at Davis Elementary School in mid-October.
