SUMMER LEARNING AND ENRICHMENT

This past school year presented many challenges for families, students, and teachers. Summer break presents a great opportunity to keep your student(s) motivated and engaged with learning while ensuring that they will be ready to return to school this Fall with the skills needed to be successful. Please take advantage of the district-provided summer learning resources below!!!


K-12 Reading English Language Arts

  • Lexia Core 5 Reading (Grades K-5) - Students will have continued access through Classlink into mid-August.  Lexia provides individualized instruction in a game-like format.  Students can work independently on Lexia to continue developing 6 essential areas of reading:  phonemic awareness, phonics, structural analysis, automaticity/ fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.  

 *Parents, please use this guide to help your child log in and learn how you can support your child’s learning throughout the Summer. Login through Classlink and if needed, complete the one-time device set up by entering your child’s teacher email address.

  •  Lexia Power Up (Grades 6-8; Special Populations) - Students will have continued access through Classlink into mid-August. Students can work independently on Lexia to continue developing 3 essential areas of reading: word study, grammar, and comprehension.

  •  IXL (K-8; Special Populations) - Students will have continued access through Classlink into mid-August. The best way to use IXL over the summer is through a personalized learning plan, and focus on what your child needs. IXL will make recommendations based on the student responses on the platform. Follow this video for having your child take the Diagnostic Assessment in IXL - followed by using the Recommendations wall for completing skill tasks. Students can work on what they need individually to help build their understanding of reading.

 *Parents, please use this guide before, during, and after implementation as it will support your understanding of the platform.

  •  Newsela (Grades 3-12) - Students will have continued access through Classlink into mid-August. Students can choose from the library of current real-world articles in Newsela. The articles are available at different reading levels to support all students in building fluency and comprehension.

K-12 Mathematics

  • IXL (Grades K-8; Special Populations) - Students will have continued access through Classlink into mid-August. The best way to use IXL over the summer is through a personalized learning plan, and focus on what your child needs. IXL will make recommendations based on the student responses on the platform.   •  Khan Academy (Grades 3-12) - Students will have continued access through Classlink into mid-August. Students can work on their instructional level, fill in gaps from the previous grade level, and receive enrichment with higher-level math skills. Students can personalize their learning with their NWEA MAP RIT score through http://khanacademy.org/mappers. Students can enter their scores and receive a personalized path.

  •  STMath (Grades K-5) - Students will have continued access through Classlink into mid-August. Students can continue their path from their current grade level and have access through mid-August to practice their visual math skills. This app is great for problem-solving and critical thinking skills development. Students will utilize this program next school year.

**Please note that these tools will be available for use from the end of this school year until August 9, 2021. At this time, we will need to shut down these sites in order to roll over the data for the following school year.**
