Social Emotional & Academic Learning (SEAL)

The Centennial School District is bolstering its approach to staff and students’ social-emotional learning and prioritizing efforts to embed social-emotional learning within academic content.

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which all young people and adults:

  • acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals
  • feel and show empathy for others
  • establish and maintain supportive relationships
  • make responsible and caring decisions.

The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) (2021)

CASEL defines five SEL competencies that are key to students’ success in school and life:

  • Self-Awareness
  • Self-Management
  • Social Awareness
  • Relationship Skills
  • Responsible Decision-Making
