Mandated Training

Safe Schools Modules

Act 126 of 2012 ("Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Training") amended the Public School Code of 1949 to mandate that all school entities and independent contractors of school entities provide their employees who have direct contact with children with a minimum of three hours of training every five years on child abuse and sexual misconduct recognition and reporting.  The law went into effect on January 2, 2013.

Act 55 of 2022 (School Safety and Security Training) amended Section 1310-B of the PA Public School Code of 1949 to establish new requirements for school safety and security training for all school employees in Pennsylvania.  It requires three hours of instruction annually; a minimum of one hour must be in-person, and a minimum of two hours of virtual.

Act 71 ("Suicide Prevention") was passed in 2014 as Hour Bill 1559.  The law requires every school district in Pennsylvania to:

1.   Adopt a set of policies and procedures for suicide prevention in their district and post this policy on the school website.  Act 71 outlines what is required within this policy.

2.  Train all educators in grades 6-12 in suicide prevention for a period of 4 hours every 5 years.

To support our employees in meeting these mandates, the District is contracted with SafeSchools Training, a web-based platform where employees can view videos in order to fulfill some of these PA requirements.

Supervisors and employees are expected to work together to develop dates/times for the requirements to be fulfilled during the school year.
